My name’s Sam Richards, or Richarts in the creative world. Doodling was always my chosen method of procrastination growing up, which eventually led to an illustration degree, which led to an illustration masters, which led me here! Nowadays, I’m in my Bromley studio most days where you’ll usually find me scribbling, emailing and probably listening to a bit of jazz.
My work is very playful, with a focus on key lines, smart colour palettes and expressive characters, all with the intention to evoke a sense of fun. I get a real buzz out of sketching initial concepts from a brief, adopting a “no idea is a bad idea” attitude – although hindsight will often argue that!
When I’m not working, I find inspiration and relaxation from getting myself out in nature. This may be a walk, or a run, but as long as I’ve got some good tunes in my ears, it really doesn’t matter. I love playing golf and watching the footy, but wouldn’t exactly call either relaxing. I don’t tend to take myself too seriously, but one thing’s for certain is that I’ll always give my all to what I do, otherwise is it worth it?
